A successful partnership
On 30 April 2013, Vortex Capital Partners, together with the Benelux license holder, acquired Mascus—a leading global online marketplace for trucks, heavy machinery, and industrial equipment.
Mascus served as a key digital platform connecting buyers and sellers across the construction, agriculture, and transport sectors, offering a scalable and internationally recognized solution in a traditionally offline market.
On 19 February 2016, Ritchie Bros., the world’s largest industrial auctioneer, announced the acquisition of Mascus—marking a successful exit for Vortex.
Key achievements during our holding period
- Disentangled Mascus from its parent company
- Turned Mascus into a stand-alone business and hired dedicated team to kick-start growth
- Simplified structure by buying-out external license holders (3 add-on acquisitions)
- Strengthened Mascus’ leadership position by realizing ambitious growth plan.
Sold to Ritchie Bros in 2016
"Together we disentangled Mascus from its parent company, a stock listed publishing company Alma Media. Mascus is a global online marketplace for buying and selling trucks and heavy machinery. We turned Mascus into a stand-alone business with a dedicated international team allowing it to start growing again. The organic growth and the various add-on acquisitions contributed to Mascus being the undisputed leader for advertising heavy machinery equipment. The acquisition by Ritchie Bros. in 2016 is a testament to what the team has accomplished, a great step for Mascus and something I am really proud of."
